What is a Kettlebell? Originally used in Russia about 350 years ago as handled counterweight, it is a cast iron ball with a handle (the horn) attached to the top of it. They are small and portable, and can be incorporated into all aspects of athletic and fitness training. Kettlebell Sport Lifting (Girevoy Sport) is the National Sport of Russia. The Russian Military requires its recruits to train with Kettlebells. The US Secret Service, FBI, and all branches of the military are now required to train with bells. 

The unique design makes kettlebell training differs from dumbbells because the center of mass extends beyond the hand, creating the need to counter balance and stabilize during your workout, engaging your core muscles. Kettlebells can be swung, thrown, juggled, pressed, held, and manipulated in hundreds of ways, creating immense diversity and unqiue ways to target different muscles. Kettlebells range from 5lbs to over 200lbs. Every age and fitness level is encouraged to build core strength and this is a great way to do it! Working out with a kettlebell guarantees to get your heart pumping with aerobic and metabolic benefits. Burn anywhere from 500-900 calories during our 30 and 50 minute classes.

My name is Scott Waltz, I have 9yr old twin daughters, a great 21 yr old son and a beautiful wife (age to remain nameless)! We have known Joanna for a several years and am excited to be added to her fitness staff. I've been involved with fitness for over 20yrs. In 2010, I was introduced to a kettlebell workout that took me to a new level of fitness and has resolved lower back pain due to an injury in 2004. This injury had limited my ability to do physical work without pain. I have since received multiple certifications in group fitness and other physical fitness certifications. I teach kettlebell group fitness classes that work your entire body, especially your core. I have researched and incorporated other exercises using body weight, medicine balls, TRX straps and other tools to keep it interesting and to challenge people to obtain a higher level of fitness.  I enjoy teaching members and surprising them with new, challenging and fun programs. Some of my training certificates came from elite instructors from FDNY as well as fitness studios/Instructors on the East Coast. My training concept is to challenge people to go beyond their physical abilities and obtain a healthier body through exercise and mental strength. My classes produce weight loss, toning, strength and endurance. Classes are also a GREAT compliment to Joanna’s kickboxing program. Building a strong core and strengthening the muscles of the body will allow you to kick and punch harder, faster and with better balance.
